Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for a Network Engineer to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

The Network Engineer will support Valley’s Commercial Broadband Internet Network Systems, and the Corporate Enterprise Network Systems. This position will be responsible for providing the specialized technical skills and knowledge for the design, implementation, upgrade, configuration, and maintenance of the various Routing and Switching hardware and software resident in the Cooperative’s complex Local Area Network (LAN) environment, virtual systems and Commercial Broadband systems.  This position participates in the technical research and development required for the continuing innovation of Valley’s network infrastructure. Education/Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years’ experience, with 8 of those years of experience with commercial broadband networking architecture, enterprise networking architecture, server hardware and operating systems including, but not limited to; domain controllers, servers, security appliances, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and virtual environments (VMWare is preferred), or a combination of education and experience that would satisfy the requirements of this position

Job Knowledge: Experience with Architectural Design and deployment of highly complex Broadband Internet Networks. IPv4/IPv6 and routing protocol experience including OSPFv3, RIP, BGP, BFD, VRRP, RIPNg and MP-BGP. Experience in designing and deploying network overlay protocols like EVPN, MPLS/MPLS-LDP/RSVP, VXLAN, L2TPv3 and IP Multicast protocols (PIM, IGMP). Candidates with Nokia and/or Juniper experience will be strongly desired. Must be proficient in the utilization of the following; Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory Administration, Virtual System Infrastructure (VMware vSphere 6 VMware Horizon View 7), SAN Technology (storage administration, iSCSI, Fiber Channel), TCP/IP Networking, Disaster Recovery planning and strategies, Network Security. In-depth knowledge of DHCP and DNS, MySQL, MS SQL and SQL Server and greater database systems. Must be willing to attend continuing education courses as required.

Abilities and Skills: Must be skilled in human relations to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the job. Must possess good oral and written communications skills to be able to effectively communicate with others. Must have the ability to handle a variety of diverse tasks and organize work to meet deadlines. Must be skilled at project management and team leadership. Must be proficient in the use of personal computers. Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must possess advanced troubleshooting skills
