Prince George Electric Cooperative (PGEC) is hiring an IT Network Engineer, who will play an integral role in the electric Cooperative's day-to-day operations and its fiber to the home subsidiary RURALBAND. This role will involve all areas of technology at the Cooperative, including end-user support, network systems engineering support, and new technology planning and installation.
This position will be located at our company headquarters in Waverly, VA.
Responsible for providing timely and friendly end-user support for issues of varying complexity (desktop/network/production applications, network, telecommunications, and hardware).
Independently resolve problems of easy to moderate scope.
Works with Sr. VP of IT and functional team leads in the successful implementation of new technologies.
Provide and document solutions to problems via proven diagnostic techniques.
Assist in understanding the internal and external network engineering topologies and contribute to re-engineer and improve the network stability for the organization.
Deploy and maintain LANs, WANs, DMZs, and wireless networks, including routers, firewalls, WAPs, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. This includes both substation electronics and internal network and hardware switch configuration.
Understand firewall rules and configuration processes to have a proactive cyber posture to mitigate the network risks.
Ensure integrity and availability of Cooperative's information assets by maintaining business continuity plans that include backups and disaster recovery.
Support multiple complex commercial off-the-shelf packages and cloud services used throughout the organization. This includes but is not limited to Calix, Cisco, Pure Storage, etc.
Support network security elements, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
Ensure successful backups and replication to the disaster recovery center.
Assist in the monitoring and troubleshooting of the broadband subsidiaries network and end-user connectivity issues, including deploying new hardware and substation electronics.
Participate in the Cooperative's strategy and initiatives.
Generally working in an office environment but may be required to work in outside conditions such as power substations. The successful candidate will be required to be available after hours and weekends in emergencies. Regularly lift and carry up to 20 pounds and infrequently lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds.

Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or computer science with 0+ years or associates degree within a computer-related field with 3+ years of experience.
Possess basic Linux administration skills.
Possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Experience with Cisco network equipment, Calix electronics installation and configuration, VMware virtualization, Pure storage, Cisco UCS servers, Veeam backup, VOIP phones, Office 365, IDS/IPS technologies, and ManageEngine is preferred.
