The Cary Network Management Center is seeking motivated and driven engineers to support management of Verizon’s Power and Transport network and technologies. Providing surveillance for Verizon’s Global Power and Transport Layer 0, 1 and 2 networks. Vendors include Coriant, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Ciena/Nortel and Fujitsu.
Handling phone calls to respond to network alarms and events for proactive network monitoring and providing technical assistance to Field Operations on the repair of global power and transport platforms.
Managing trouble tickets, alarm monitoring, outage communications, and process escalations for internal and external customers.
Generating, driving, and updating trouble tickets via internal ticketing system.
Performing fault isolation, triaging, and repairing network events to ensure the health of our network.
Working with external and internal Verizon organizations to coordinate and troubleshoot network events.
Providing network technical assistance to external teams by communicating technical details to customer service centers, technical support organizations, and executive management teams during network events and major outages.

You enjoy digging into the details to find solutions and can adapt easily to various challenges as an agile thinker. Collaborating and communicating with others comes naturally to you. Not only are you a great listener, but you know how to ask the right questions to get to the root cause of an issue.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.
Willingness to work in a rotating schedule (shifts) including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have:
A degree in engineering, telecommunications, computer science or equivalent discipline.
Two or more years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge of the Cloud.
Network Operations Center experience.
Scripting with Python, No-JS, Perl, or equivalent languages with examples of projects implemented.
IP networking certifications.
Demonstrated ability to provide timely and accurate network information to both management and other organizations during network events and major, critical and catastrophic outages.
Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced conditions while multitasking.
Experience driving automation initiatives.
Experience with SONET, Ethernet, DWDM.
