What you’ll be doing...
The Wireless Edge Network Support team is seeking motivated and driven engineers to support the management of Verizon’s Wireless Edge Network encompassing ENSE, eNSE-SR, Multi-Service Edge, MEC, IP Routing, and Virtual Cloud Platforms. As the Principal Engineer, you will be part of the Wireless Edge Network Support Team, focused on developing solutions that drive the success of Verizon’s Edge Networks and Platforms. The Wireless Edge Network Support Team is dedicated to evolving operations to meet the demands of running the network of tomorrow. You will be innovative and lead cross-functional activities with partners in Planning, Performance, and Engineering.
You will sharpen the focus on network reporting, audits (proactive analysis), tracking, preventative maintenance, redundancy testing, logistics support. This work will also require close partnerships with the implementation team, and Maintenance Engineering to assist derive the path of necessary software upgrades, patches (including JSU and SMUs). The Wireless Edge Network Support team will take a lead role to identify use cases from lessons learned / analysis and work toward automated (closed-loop) focused on avoiding customer interruption. The team successful engineer will also be engaged in scripting and further development of the TAR (Transport Auto Remediation) and eNSE-AP automation tools.You will also work be engaged in operational/ implementation support challenges (such as creating deployment methods of nationwide emergency updates).
Compliance Reporting Updated (manage/audit/fix).
Maintenance window risk analysis and coordination.
Proactive preventative maintenance on legacy OTNGN and eNSE elements.
Performing proactive monitoring, log analysis, and alarm/ event correlation.
Ensuring device configuration compliance in accordance with ME directives.
Performance audits (Perf AM report / drive to make closed loop).
Partnering with stakeholders with proposed Network Support use cases.
Leading effort for maintaining emergency access and maintaining ownership password credentials.
Devicing uptime analysis and schedule restarts per MTCE directive standards.
Recalculating back-up MPLS tunnels (OTNGN only) for data - MPLS Fast reroute.
Leading implementation tasks of P, PE, ISP Choke, Route Reflectors as well as some EDN routers.
Partnering internally with Maintenance Engineering to review existing software deployment roadmaps.
Training Support to T1 and T2 staff.
Network Directive Tracking / communication to network support.
Supporting ASFT – Application-specific failover testing when requested.
Assisting / partnering with edge support peers on operations and implementation as needed.
Refining MOP review processes.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineeringor four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge of software architecture, programming languages, virtualization, and the networking layers.
Even better if you have:
Eight or more years of experiencein the telecom industry focused on technology. Routers, switches, IP routing.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills concurrent with excellent verbal and written communication skills including capabilities to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
Ability to lead people and manage technical discussions with a group of individuals in the industry with varying technical positions along with the ability to work well both independently and in diverse teams.
Master's degree in a field relating to telecom/communications, engineering, information science
Knowledge of Network Configuration Protocol (NETCONF), REST-CONF, and YANG.
Certification in OpenStack, CloudStack, Red Hat or similar.
Demonstrable knowledge of NextGen Optical Networks, 5G, SDN, NFV, and other leading technologies, IP telecommunication equipment and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia) and Knowledge of routing protocols (MPLS, LDP, BGP, IS-IS, and OSPF).
Experience with SDN, Network Controllers, and NFV Orchestration and VNF Management.
