United Cooperative Services has a position opening for a Network Engineer in the Cleburne Broadband Department.
The Network Engineer will own the end-to-end workflow from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to United Points-of-Presence (PoPs) over the backbone, the distribution system to the end-user. In addition, the Network Engineer will define routing policy, implement solutions for commercial customers and support internal and external connectivity. The Network Engineer will perform extensive design, configuration, deployment, management, maintenance and troubleshooting in a 10G symmetrical passive optical network (XGSPON) access network, to include Optical Line Transport (OLT), Optical Network Transport (ONT). In addition, responsibilities include maintaining the health of the fixed wireless infrastructure, ethernet switches, routers, firewalls and servers and services provided by these devices. Expectations for the position include handling escalations from technical member services staff, installation technicians, and Network Operations. Troubleshooting and resolving problems and outages with a sense of urgency and accuracy is an essential to success in this position.
Internet Service Providers (ISP): deploying internet service provider methodologies and approaches to include border gateway protocol and intermediate system to intermediate system (ISIS), IPv4 and IPv6 subnetting
Ethernet Transport: designing and deploying infrastructure to enable provisioning of increases bandwidth and offering differentiated capabilities to include VoIP and SIP
Headends or Points-of-Presence: operating access points that enable FTTH aggregation
Maintains familiarity with and promotes Cooperative and departmental safety related work practices, safety procedures, and other safety requirements.
Interacts with device vendors on network platforms, topologies, architectures that involve fixed wireless and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) implementations with an appreciation for day-to-day operational efficiency
Contributes to product and service roadmaps to best serve customer demand
Collaborates with stakeholder teams to develop and publish standards for network infrastructure
Interfaces with other broadband team members (Outside Plant, Product, Operations, Installations) to determine technical requirements and expectations.
Prepares network topology, drawings, and technical specifications, to assist tool development to automate repetitive tasks
Reviewing, researching and resolving complex problems relating to network and server installation, integration, security, configuration and monitoring.
Develop and document system standards and provide documentation of all new and existing logical and physical networks and infrastructure.
Review and monitor connectivity, project development, adherence to networking standards and thorough testing produced by network contractors, vendors and staff for quality control.
Serve as a liaison with outside vendors and service providers on technical issues relating to networking equipment, servers, transport and connectivity.
Develops and delivers appropriate ad-hoc training for market, including new product and new technology
Acts as a technical mentor and provides support and thought leadership within the Network team
Adheres to United safety policies and procedures and offers recommendations to supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

Contractors: Serves as lead in monitoring the effectiveness of outside technical contractors (eg. Splicers).
Vendors: Works with multitude of vendors providing network components for sales, configuration, operations and maintenance.
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree preferably in Technical field, and/or at least 5 years of related experience.
Equipment Operated: Must be ableto operate personal computers and related software. Must be able to use office equipment and telecommunications equipment. Must have a current Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Basic Abilities and Skills: 5 years of experience in IP networking fundamentals and with the application of IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and troubleshooting skills. Must be able to demonstrate ability with routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF and possess skills with Juniper MX, SRX and EX platforms including offered processors and linecards. Internet Service Provider, WAN or similar network environment experience highly desired. Experience with configuring and managing routers, layer 2/3 switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators, and wireless devices (access points, stations and PTP). Thorough understanding of TCP/IP and Ethernet, proficient in routing and switching. Experience with XGSPON, Active Ethernet, OLTs, access networks, and FTTP hardware desired. VoIP systems and services including hosted SIP. Ability to create network documentation, diagrams, knowledge base articles. Strong technical, analytical and communication skills. Experience with navigating and collaborating with co-workers at all levels of the organization. Must possess strong verbal and writing skills to provide effective presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Abilities and Skills: Strong Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Shell is desirable. Certification such as (CCIE, JNCIE) are preferred.

Working Conditions: Requires working indoors and outdoors with some irregular hours. Some travel is required inside and outside the cooperative service area.
