Summary Digital Technologies Intern
The purpose of the internship is to assist BTS and NRECA in furthering research on electric cooperatives involved in advanced telecommunications programs, including grid modernization and digitization, broadband for electric operations, retail high-speed internet services, business models, and financing mechanisms. Through this research, the intern will have the opportunity to receive a deeper understanding of project development, program design, and the value of accurate and reliable data for electric cooperatives and NRECA.
The signature project will be research from various sources to build a comprehensive database of how advanced telecommunications technologies are being applied by electric cooperatives and specifically what projects have been undertaken, including data on applicable business models, technologies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and funding sources. Through this project, the intern will develop and improve skills in data collection and management, research, communication, decision-making, and teamwork. More broadly, the intern will learn more about the goals and mission of NRECA and will potentially be motivated to pursue a career in the electric industry or in the co-op world.
NRECA Business and Technology Strategies interns receive wide-ranging industry and technical briefings, and assignments that build business skills. NRECA provides interns with extensive background about the network of U.S. electric cooperatives and the not-for-profit cooperative business model.
